Cheddar and Chutney Scones

Cheddar and Chutney Scones

I’ll let these photos speak for themselves. As much as I’d like to recall, these buttermilk, Cheddar and Christmas Chutney scones didn’t just happen spontaneously because unlike chutney and cheese, it’s not often I have buttermilk in the fridge. And you really need buttermilk for this recipe. These scones were a premeditated craving. I’d also recommend grabbing some proper Wookey Hole Cave Cheddar and Rosebud Preserve Christmas Chutney rich with dates, prunes, apricots and ale because that’s what I used and the combination worked deliriously well. In the exciting months leading up to Christmas, foodies have to contend with deliveries of festive treats, and the latest and likely my last for this year were some seasonal offerings from Rosebud Preserves; Christmas Fruit Chutney made with prunes, dates, apricots, aromatic allspice and strong dark ale and Almond and Orange Mincemeat made with with Bramley apples, vine fruits, citrus and a measure of brandy. Elspeth Biltoft founded her preserve company in 1989, combining the recipes passed down from her mother and botanical teachings of her father. Based in Masham in North Yorkshire, Rosebud Preserves has grown bigger …

To add some sparkle, once set, brush with edible lustre dust or add some edible glitter or stars to your topping.

All you need to do is slowly melt on the lowest microwave setting, …

Festive Christmas Tart

Everything from the pastry to the filling to licking the beaters covered in butter, rum and sugar, this recipe is smashing! With these proportions of rum and butter – how could this tart not be decadent and delicious?

I make this every year and have experimented making smaller pies, but due to the delicacy and shortness of the pastry,  this recipe is best as one large tart. Serve it up with ice cream or whipped cream, but is just a good without any adornments.
